Vandy Banderdash
Halfling cleric of Delleb, head priestess and head librarian of the Hall of Illumination, and one of Seaton's Cove's foremost scholars and keepers of historical knowledge.

Overview
Vandy Banderdash is a halfling cleric of Delleb and the head priestess and head librarian of the Hall of Illumination in Seaton’s Cove .
She is one of the town’s leading scholars and the principal custodian of its historical records, religious texts, maps, and accumulated knowledge. When an old inscription must be understood, a forgotten event researched, or a dangerous mystery placed into historical context, Vandy is one of the people most likely to know where to begin looking.
Kind, bookish, and deeply committed to preserving knowledge, she can also become so absorbed in research that the world around her seems to disappear.
Physical Description
Vandy is a middle-aged halfling woman with round spectacles and the unmistakable appearance of someone who spends much of her life among books.
Her robes are frequently marked with ink, and she is rarely far from notes, loose papers, reference works, or writing materials. She carries herself more like a scholar than a public dignitary, despite her important position within the Hall of Illumination.

The Hall of Illumination
The Hall of Illumination is the largest temple in Seaton’s Cove and is principally dedicated to Delleb, god of reason, intellect, and study.
The Hall is also one of the town’s most important centers of learning.
Its collections include:
- Histories
- Maps
- Religious writings
- Textbooks
- Travel accounts
- Local records
- Arcane and scholarly works
- Material concerning older civilizations and forgotten events
Vandy oversees the preservation, cataloguing, and use of these collections.
The Hall welcomes non-evil faiths and serves the community as more than a temple. For scholars, priests, adventurers, and townsfolk searching for answers, it is one of the most important repositories of information in southern Salinmoor.
Keeper of Seaton’s Cove’s History
Vandy’s responsibilities extend beyond maintaining shelves of books.
She serves as one of Seaton’s Cove’s principal keepers of historical memory. Old records, local accounts, religious documents, maps, and fragments of earlier history all fall within the Hall’s concerns.
She is particularly wary of knowledge disappearing simply because it is old, obscure, inconvenient, or dangerous.
That concern extends to the legacy of the ancient Suel Imperium. Vandy is suspicious of lost magical knowledge associated with the Suel and believes that forgotten material should be understood and preserved rather than allowed to vanish without record.
The Hall maintains scholarly contacts beyond Seaton’s Cove, including connections with learned circles in Gradsul and Niole Dra.
Council at Menhemes Manor
When the adventurers returned from beneath Seaton’s Cove with news of a young green dragon, Vandy was among the prominent residents summoned to Menhemes Manor.
After hearing the party’s account, she argued that the first step should be knowledge.
Before anyone returned below, they needed to understand green dragons—their habits, defenses, methods of attack, and possible weaknesses.
Her advice helped turn the town’s response away from an immediate and poorly prepared confrontation and toward investigation and preparation.
The Search for Answers
After the council, Hugo Baudelaire and Haldir Sorenson accompanied Vandy back toward the Hall of Illumination.
On the way, Vandy suggested consulting Morlibint at Odd Stories, knowing that his broad and unusual reading might complement the Hall’s formal collection.
For the next three days, Vandy, Hugo, and Haldir searched the Hall’s library while Morlibint worked through his own books.
Their research eventually uncovered several useful works concerning green dragons, including:
- Forest Guardians: Ancient Rituals to Aid in Green Dragon Warfare
- Whispers of the Wyrm: Tales of Survival and Strategies in Green Dragon Encounters
Combined with Morlibint’s research, these texts gave the adventurers a much better understanding of the creature beneath Seaton’s Cove.
Scholar of Forgotten Things
Vandy’s usefulness extends well beyond dragons.
Her work at the Hall places her close to many of the campaign’s deeper mysteries: old ruins, forgotten religions, ancient peoples, unusual magical phenomena, and records that may have survived long after the events they describe were forgotten.
She is especially valuable when the party encounters something that cannot be understood simply by looking at it.
A symbol may need translation.
A ruin may need historical context.
A strange object may have appeared in some forgotten chronicle.
A story dismissed as folklore may turn out to preserve a fragment of truth.
Those are the kinds of questions Vandy is equipped to pursue.
Role in the Campaign
Vandy represents knowledge, scholarship, and historical memory within Seaton’s Cove.
While Captain Lardus Longsaddle approaches danger through security and Worliwynn through nature and ancient tradition, Vandy looks for records, precedents, translations, and explanations.
For the adventurers, she can serve as:
- A research contact
- A translator or interpreter of old material
- A guide to the Hall’s collections
- A source of historical context
- A religious scholar
- A connection to scholars elsewhere in Keoland
- A careful voice when dangerous knowledge is involved
She does not assume that every mystery should be opened immediately.
Understanding something and disturbing it are not always the same thing.
