If you're new to Greyhawk, the name Oerik may not mean anything to you. No, it isn't a vacuum cleaner.

The World of Greyhawk takes place on a planet called Oerth. Oerik is the great continent that dominates much of Oerth's Northern Hemisphere. It is a vast landmass containing many different lands, peoples, and cultures, only a portion of which have been explored in detail through the Greyhawk setting.

At the eastern end of Oerik lies a region called the Flanaess. This is the part of the world most Greyhawk players know. The Flanaess contains the Free City of Greyhawk as well as kingdoms and realms such as Keoland, Furyondy, Nyrond, and the Great Kingdom. It is the setting for most of the classic adventures and locations associated with the World of Greyhawk.

For many players, the Flanaess is Greyhawk simply because it is the portion of the world shown and described in the classic campaign setting. But the map does not end at its western edge. The Flanaess is only the eastern portion of the much larger continent of Oerik, and Oerik itself is only part of the wider world of Oerth.

That larger geography is where the name The Oerik Dispatch comes from. This site is devoted to exploring the World of Greyhawk: its lands and peoples, its history, its adventures, and the campaigns we create within it. Much of that exploration will naturally take us through the Flanaess, but there is a much larger world beyond.
